Is Dodgers’ Enrique Hernández Playing The Wrong Position?
MLB: Miami Marlins at Los Angeles Dodgers Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

For the second time this season, in a blowout scenario, Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Enrique Hernández has hilariously taken the pitcher’s mound.

He takes center stage, rocking a hybrid ball cap and helmet with his fielding glasses. Last night, his 50 mph cheese was too much for the New York Yankees in the 9th inning.

He gave up a double to the first batter he faced, but then retired the next three with back-to-back groundouts and a flyout to end the game.

Enrique Hernández, Dodgers’ New Closer?

In two innings of pitching so far this season, Hernández has a 0.00 ERA. The Dodgers’ actual closer, Tanner Scott, currently holds a 4.56 ERA.

Now we are not actually suggesting that Hernández should be the closer over Scott, but it is pretty remarkable that his slow-playing pitches have yet to give up a run. The pressure of the game certainly plays a role, as both appearances came when both games were ultimately already decided.

Either way, it is fun for fans to see the hometown favorite out on the mound doing what every kid dreams of. Wearing a ridiculous-looking helmet and throwing a major league moonshot to the best hitters in the game.

It’s safe to say that Hernández would dominate in the slow-pitch beer leagues.
