Aaron Judge may be the face of the Yankees, but the soundtrack on Saturday night was pure Jazz. After New York outlasted the White Sox in 11 innings, WFAN’s Suzyn Waldman told Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the field that Toronto had coughed one up to Milwaukee, meaning the Yankees now trail the Blue Jays by just two games in the American League East.
Chisholm’s response was a shot of adrenaline every team needs as the season turns from August to September: “HECK YEAH! LET’S GO!”
The Yankees’ 5–3 win made it seven straight for the Yankees. Cody Bellinger punched the go-ahead single, and Chisholm followed with a scorched RBI double to left that put the game on ice. It’s just the latest entry in a week where New York’s late-inning offense keeps finding oxygen.
Meanwhile in Toronto, the Brewers landed a one-two ninth-inning haymaker — Jackson Chourio followed by Christian Yelich — to beat the Jays, 4–1. Now two games back in the AL East entering Sunday, the Yankees are the closest they have been since the All-Star break and suddenly the Jays can hear footsteps.
Chisholm had sent a warning shot earlier this week with a mission statement that plays on repeat now: “We want to win the division … then go win the World Series.” It read like swagger on Thursday; by Saturday night, it sounded like a plan.
Seven straight, an 11-inning road win, and the lead is down to two. The Yankees didn’t just pick up a game; they are building momentum.
Chisholm’s night certainly helps.
The double in the 11th pushed his season line to .240 with 26 homers, 67 RBIs and 25 steals, a 25/25 season with a real shot to reach that rare 30/30 club.
