Marlins Open to Trading Liam Hicks

After looking like a playoff contender not too long ago, the Miami Marlins have seen their season fall off track as of late.

Following their 20-6 run during the month of June, the Marlins' luck in July has completely gone the other way. Miami was finally able to snap a 12-game losing streak on Monday night when they walked off the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-7. They're now 53-54 on the year and enter Tuesday two games out of the third and final Wild Card spot in the National League.

While the Marlins still have plenty of time to turn their season around, it is fair to say that their trade deadline plans may have changed, in large part because of their 12-game slide. Even though it remains unclear what the Marlins' plan will be ahead of the August 3 deadline, they are reportedly listening to offers on one of their best hitters.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported on Tuesday that the Marlins are open to trading Liam Hicks to catcher-needy teams.

Hicks has undoubtedly been Miami's best hitter this season, as well as being very versatile around the diamond. Through 95 games this season, Hicks has a .796 OPS with 14 homers and 60 RBI.

Despite being a catcher for most of his career, the 27-year-old has been used as both a first baseman and DH for the Marlins, with Joe Mack taking over catching duties full-time due to his great defense behind the plate.

With the catcher's market not having a lot of options, Hicks could easily be a perfect fit for teams in need of a catcher. Some of those teams that Feinsand named include the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Miami's 12-game losing streak certainly derailed their season and may have led their front office to reconsider their trade deadline plans.

The Marlins still have time to claw back into the playoff chase, but if their struggles continue and if there's a fit for Hicks elsewhere, the slugger could be on the move.
