
The Miami Marlins today are facing the Toronto Blue Jays at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Janson Junk gets the ball, bringing in a 0-1 record with a 3.00 ERA. The Marlins trimmed their spring training roster before today’s game as they optioned right-handed pitcher Bradley Blalock and Garrett Acton to the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. The Marlins assigned right-handed pitcher Jake Clemente to their roster for today’s game.

The Marlins acquired Blalock in January from the Colorado Rockies. This spring, in three games, he’s 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings. In 21 career big league appearances, with 18 of those coming as starts, he went 3-9. Blacklock has an 8.16 ERA, a 1.83 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts in 89.1 innings.
The Marlins claimed Acton off waivers from the Rockies back in February. It was Acton’s second time on waivers this offseason. Colorado claimed him back on November 6th from the Tampa Bay Rays. Acton, this spring in six games, has allowed one unearned run on no hits; he’s walked four and struck out six in 5.1 innings.
The Marlins drafted Clemente out of Florida back in the seventh round of last summer’s MLB Draft. In two seasons at Florida, he made 40 appearances with seven of those coming as starts, going 4-1 with a 4.10 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts in 83.1 innings. He made his debut for the Marlins at Single-A Jupiter, where in five games he didn’t allow a run on four hits; he walked three and struck out nine in 8.1 innings. Clemente is a native of Coral Springs, FL.
