Back in 2001, the Milwaukee Brewers played their first game at what was then called Miller Park. Now named American Family Field, the stadium has played host to Brewers home games for 25 seasons now. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the stadium, Milwaukee has announced some special activities before, during after the July 25th (a Friday) home game against the Miami Marlins.
Most notably, the festivities will include a home run derby in which several former Brewers stars will compete.
Some of the names of the Brewers alumni that will be participating in the home run derby will not be surprising as they hit plenty of homers during their times in Milwaukee. However, some may be a bit intriguing as they were not known for their power throughout their careers.
The players competing are:
Braun and Gomez will serve as captains and “draft” the players that will compete on their teams. In addition to these players, beloved former Brewers coach Ed Sedar will be pitching to the contestants, and former catcher George Kottaras will, well, catch.
The derby will take place after the game against the Marlins and concession stands will reopen for the event.
In addition to the home run derby, there will be several deals on concessions and in the Brewers Team Store. Draft beer and brats will be sold for $2.50 (for the 25th anniversary) up until first pitch. Additionally, select items in the team store will be sold for a 25% discount.
The aforementioned home run derby contestants are not the only former players who will be at American Family Field for the celebration. In addition to them, several others, at least one from each roster from 2001-2025, will be available for autograph and photo opportunities around the stadium before and after the game.
