It was a slow start for the San Diego Padres on Monday night, but they ended the game with a dramatic finish. The Miami Marlins jumped out early, scoring three runs and taking a 3-0 lead after three innings.

The Marlins held a 3-2 edge heading into the eighth inning, when Manny Machado stepped up and delivered in classic Machado fashion. The Padres' veteran slugger launched a solo home run to tie the game 3-3.

San Diego later secured the win in the 11th inning, scoring the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

After the game, Major League Baseball recognized Machado's heroics with a strong message:

"Manny doing Manny things."

The home run was Machado’s sixth of the 2025 season. But his year has been about more than just power. Machado is batting .319, which currently ranks fourth in the National League.

That blast also marked the 348th home run of his career. Machado began his MLB journey in 2012 with the Baltimore Orioles. After more than six full seasons in Baltimore, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2018 season, finishing the year with them over 66 games.

Machado became a cornerstone of the Padres.

In 2023, signed an 11-year, $350 million contract with San Diego, including a $45 million signing bonus. For the 2025 season, he’s earning a base salary of $13 million.

A six-time All-Star, Machado won two Gold Gloves and earned First Team All-MLB honors twice. His steady production and leadership have anchored San Diego’s roster over recent seasons.

Following the win, the Padres improved to 30-22, pulling even with the San Francisco Giants for second place in the National League West.
