Pablo Reyes signs minor league deal with Athletics
Pablo Reyes. Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Over the past two seasons, Pablo Reyes has had a few major league stints with the Brewers. Overall he appeared in 59 games for the "Brew Crew" with just six coming in 2022. Upon the conclusion of the 2022 season, he was outrighted and elected free agency. He now has signed a minor league deal with the Oakland Athletics.

Prior to being with the Brewers, Reyes was a Pirate. If the 29-year-old can make the Athletics big league roster it will be his third major league team. Reyes is out of minor league options and faces an uphill battle, but he should have a decent shot at making the active roster on a rebuilding A’s team.

How did Reyes perform as a Brewer?

Reyes did put together a solid season at the Triple-A level in 2022. Overall, he slashed .273/.348/.439 with 11 home runs, 27 doubles, 15 steals, and a 110 wRC+. He also showed good contact skills and walked at a pretty good clip as well.

At the major league level, he received 78 at-bats in 2021 where he hit a .256 batting average. Additionally, he collected five doubles, one home run, nine walks, and four stolen bases. In 2022 he received just 15 at-bats, which is not enough to draw any conclusion.

With the Brewers, Reyes did not have a clear path to major league playing time. Despite Luis Urias struggling in 2022 and utility man Jace Peterson becoming a free agent, the Brewers elected to outright him.  Part of this may be due to Brice Turang being added to the 40-man roster.
