The Philadelphia Phillies are entering a pivotal offseason with the roster expected to look different heading into 2026. Despite winning back-to-back NL East division titles, the Phillies have not found success in October, prompting a likely shake-up of the roster.
Longtime everyday outfielder Nick Castellanos is expected to be moved or possibly released in favor of an upgrade after continued struggles. Another player whose future is uncertain is third baseman Alec Bohm, who endured an injury-riddled season and no longer has a guaranteed spot in the lineup.
Bohm has spent his entire six-year career with Philadelphia and was once considered a key piece of the future after being selected third overall in the 2018 MLB Draft. The 29-year-old right-handed hitter produced solid numbers in 2025, posting a .287 batting average, .331 on-base percentage, .741 OPS, 11 home runs and 59 RBIs across 120 games.
However, Bohm’s numbers are not game-changing, and he is set to enter unrestricted free agency next offseason. His name was floated in trade rumors last winter, though he ultimately remained in Philadelphia.
When asked about Bohm’s status this offseason, MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki reported on Saturday, “He keeps getting mentioned because they tried to trade him last winter, and if they’re going to shake up the offense, it’s an obvious place to start... Almost everything should be on the table this winter for the Phillies.”
That sentiment reflects the uncertainty surrounding Bohm’s future. With the organization eager to break through in October, Philadelphia appears willing to explore significant changes, and Bohm’s role could be one of the first areas addressed.
If Bohm is moved, the Phillies could become a suitor for free agent Alex Bregman to fill the hot corner, who is coming off an excellent year with the Boston Red Sox. Another possibility would be buying low on St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, as new general manager Chaim Bloom is reportedly eager to move him in order to build a younger roster.
The Phillies also have Aidan Miller, their former first-round pick from the 2023 MLB Draft. He is a top prospect who could serve as an internal option and is expected to be part of the team’s future while possibly competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster. Ultimately, whether the Phillies pursue an external upgrade or turn to internal options, Bohm’s uncertain status remains a central storyline in shaping the team’s offseason direction.
