Phillies Announce Alec Bohm Update After Missing Cardinals Game

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has come alive in the month of August. The 30-year-old shifted to first base with Luis Arraez coming in at the trade deadline from the San Francisco Giants, and seemingly the positional change has helped his bat turn around considerably.

In August, Bohm owns a .378 batting average, .420 on-base percentage and .947 OPS with one home run and 16 RBIs. He has also come up clutch multiple times during the Phillies’ nine-game winning streak, including a walk-off triple earlier this week.

With Bohm set to hit unrestricted free agency at the end of the season, the Phillies will have to seriously consider bringing him back given this run of form.

Unfortunately, Bohm did not play during Philadelphia’s miraculous comeback win on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals. He experienced groin and hamstring tightness during Saturday’s game, and for Sunday he was not included in the starting lineup.

After the win, Don Mattingly spoke with reporters and confirmed that Bohm was fully unavailable even off the bench, meaning the Phillies were effectively playing a man down.

Fortunately, the plan is for Bohm to return right away on Monday for a series opener against the Seattle Mariners (h/t Ty Daubert of Phillies Nation).

That is positive news for the Phillies considering how hot he has been recently, though his condition will still be monitored moving forward.

He will be back in the lineup as Philadelphia looks to extend their winning streak to 10 games while continuing to solidify their postseason position.
