Philadelphia Phillies infielder Bryson Stott has stepped up for the club in the month of August. Stott learned a new position in third base to clear space on the infield for Luis Arraez, and while that transition is not easy in itself, he has somehow been even better at the plate since making the move.

In August, the 28-year-old has posted a .308 batting average, .464 on-base percentage and .880 OPS with one home run and 10 RBIs across 20 games.

Stott has been a huge reason why the Phillies entered Sunday in the midst of an eight-game winning streak.

Unfortunately, Stott suffered an injury during Sunday’s matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals. In the top of the eighth inning he was unexpectedly removed from the game, with Arraez coming off the bench to take over at second base. Moments later, the Phillies announced the reason for his early exit.

Bryson Stott has a bruised right foot, Phillies said. Luis Arraez is at second,” reported Ty Daubert of Phillies Nation.

It is unclear when Stott suffered the injury, but it was significant enough that he could not finish the game.

The timing is particularly concerning given that Arraez, who stepped in to replace him, has also been dealing with cramps and was expected to get the full day off. Having both players compromised at the same time is far from ideal for a Phillies team in the middle of one of its best stretches of the season.

The hope is that Stott’s injury is not serious enough to land him on the 10-day injured list, especially considering how well he has performed recently. His next chance to return to the starting lineup will come on Monday with the Phillies heading to Seattle to face the Mariners.
