The Philadelphia Phillies are slowly trimming their roster to get it ready for Opening Day. After making some moves earlier in the week, the Phillies made three more roster moves, all involving pitchers.

Griff McGarry was reassigned to Minor League camp following a tough spring training. He finished with a 16.20 ERA in just one and one-third innings pitched.

The 25-year-old has had a tumultuous past few seasons after being one of the Phillies' top prospects in their farm system. In 2025, he will look to stabilize himself in Minor League camp.

Jean Cabrera was another pitcher to be sent down to the minor leagues, except he was optioned to Reading, the Phillies' Double-A affiliate. In three innings of work in spring training, Cabrera posted a solid 3.00 ERA and five strikeouts.

The most prominent player to be sent down is Moises Chace. In 2024, the Baltimore Orioles acquired Chace and Seth Johnson on the trade deadline for Gregory Soto.

While Chace only pitched one inning in spring training, he did not allow any baserunners. Chace quickly rose in the Phillies' prospect rankings, now sitting at fifth, according to MLB.com.

With Soto struggling in Baltimore, the prospects that general manager Dave Dombrowski acquired were bound to draw interest. Chace has drawn much attention and has risen through the Phillies' farm system.

With how the Phillies acquired Chace by trading a player they were likely to part ways with, Chace will have plenty of eyes on him down at Double-A Reading.

The Phillies are finalizing their initial 26-man roster for Opening Day. They will open the 2025 MLB season on Thursday, March 27, in Washington, D.C., against the Washington Nationals.
