The Philadelphia Phillies are trying to further climb their way back into the playoff hunt. However, now they’ll have to do so without one of their top prospects in mind.

Shortstop Aidan Miller isn’t currently doing baseball activities. While the franchise is reluctant to say he suffered a setback, Miller’s back injury hasn’t recovered how the franchise has hoped, via Paul Casella of MLB.com.

“We’re leaning on medical,” Mattingly said. “Still just doing his rehab program at this point. It’s not baseball activities, but as we’ve seen over the years, that could change pretty quickly.”

The Phillies are sure to be paying close attention as he continues rehabbing. There is no timetable for when he could return to baseball activities. Philadelphia will hope he is able to return to the diamond sooner rather than later. But the longer Miller is out, the less likely it becomes that he contributes in 2026.

When the shortstop eventually does make his MLB debut, all eyes will be on the rookie. He currently ranks as the top prospect in the franchise and No. 15 in all of baseball, via MLB Pipeline. Miller is set up to be a crucial piece of the Phillies’ lineup for the foreseeable future.

The shortstop has yet to play a game in 2026 due to his back injury. But over his 116 games in 2025, Miller hit .264 with 14 home runs, 42 RBIs and 59 stolen bases. His 238 total games at the minor league level has resulted in a .265 batting average with 25 home runs, 104 RBIs and 86 stolen bases.

Philadelphia still remains optimistic of Miller’s sky-high potential. But he must be on the diamond to continue making a name for himself.
