Rams owner buying Angels from Arte Moreno

“The Angels are a storied franchise anchored in a great market,” Kroenke said in a statement included in the press release. “We look forward to an exciting future with the Angels organization.”

Angels fans demanded that Moreno sell the team in a protest earlier this season. In fact, even former players have criticized Moreno’s ownership.

The Angels won their first (and only) World Series in 2002. Moreno then bought the Angels in 2003. It was an exciting time in Anaheim. The ball club was good and they had a new owner who seemed motivated to help them continue winning.

The Angels continued to perform well for most of the 2000’s decade. The same cannot be said for the 2010’s decade and the first seven years of the 2020’s decade, however. They made just one total postseason appearance during that span, which came in 2014 when they were swept in the American League Division Series.

Despite featuring superstars such as Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani on the roster, the Angels were unable to build a competitive roster in the 2010’s. The trend continued to this decade, and the ball club is once again among the worst teams in the sport this season.

Perhaps Kroenke can help the Angels get back on track and end their postseason drought.
