The third time was the charm for Jacob deGrom.
After sitting on 99 career wins over his last three starts, deGrom finally notched his 100th career victory Monday night. The right-hander struck out eight batters over five innings of work while allowing four hits during the Texas Rangers' 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
With that win, deGrom became the 16th active player in Major League Baseball to reach 100 career wins.

What perhaps makes the win even sweeter for deGrom is that he won his 100th career game on his son Nolan's third birthday.
“I’ll always remember that, getting my 100th win on his third birthday. It’s really cool," deGrom said after the game.
The two-time Cy Young Award winner is in the fourth year of a five-year, $185 million deal he inked with Texas during the 2022 offseason after spending the first nine years of his career with the New York Mets.
deGrom, who turns 38 years old on June 19, has had a difficult time staying healthy throughout portions of his career.
He made six starts during his first season with the Rangers in 2023 before undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair his torn UCL. deGrom eventually worked his way back to the big leagues towards the end of the 2024 season, making three starts and logging a 1.69 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 10.1 innings.
Since recuperating from Tommy John surgery, deGrom has returned to his dominant form. For the first time since 2019, the righty hurler made 30 starts last season, posting a 12-8 record with a 2.97 ERA, 187 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.92. deGrom was also selected for the All-Star Game last year.
He has since continued to pitch well, notching 12 starts for the Rangers this year with a respectable 3.48 ERA and, more importantly, is healthy.
“He’s been so dominant throughout his career,” manager Skip Schumaker told reporters after the game. “It’s so nice to be and so fun to be a part of his 100th win. I know the boys were excited in [the clubhouse]. They had a little celebration already for him.”
The Rangers and deGrom are hoping that celebration can continue throughout the rest of this season as they look to climb their way back to the .500 mark, entering Tuesday at 29-31.
