The Arizona Diamondbacks were defeated by the Chicago Cubs by a score of 13-11, in one of the most eventful and thrilling games so far of the 2025 season.
This rollercoaster of a game started slow but turned into an electric battle of offense on the field for both teams. Corbin Burnes looked solid for the D-Backs as he went 6.0 innings pitched and only gave up two earned runs on six hits, though it went down from there. Head coach Torey Lovullo turned to some bullpen arms that did not deliver today. Ryne Nelson, who has shown problems throughout this season, came in and gave up five earned runs on five hits in just 0.2 innings pitched. Chicago jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, and all hope seemed lost.. until the “answer-backs”, did their thing.
Arizona had an incredible 10 run inning in the top of the eighth, and it all started with an Eugenio Suarez grand slam that led into Geraldo Perdomo adding another run on top, as he hit a single scoring McCarthy making the score 7-6.
Randal Grichuk came up to the plate and hit one down the line that skipped through third, and scored Perdomo and Thomas as the D-Backs took the lead 8-7 in a play full of errors. Shortly after, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had his moment hitting a three-run home run giving the Snakes a four-run lead 11-7.

Lovullo then turned to Bryce Jarvis and Joe Mantiply who each gave up three earned runs in 0.2 innings pitched. Mantiply who has struggled most of 2025, gave up six hits and ultimately helped give the Cubs the 13-11 victory.
The Snakes will look to bounce back after today’s loss in another day game at Wrigley Field tomorrow, Saturday, April 19th. The first pitch is at the same time at 11:20 a.m. MST.
