Barring an unforeseen turnaround, the Colorado Rockies aren’t expected to compete for a playoff spot in 2026. Instead, the Rockies are focused on developing their young players and building to a bright future.
That’s not to say results don’t matter. Instead, Colorado will be intently evaluating each player who gets an opportunity on their roster. If it’s clear they aren’t ready for the MLB level, the Rockies will have to turn to another option. A successful 2026 would see the Rockies continue to find who the core players of their rebuild will be.
One player clearly hasn’t be living up to the hype in 2026. If he continues to struggle, he could find himself falling out of Colorado’s plans.
Through his first eight games in 2026, Beck is hitting just .080 with four RBIs and a stolen bases. His -0.4 WAR is ranked as the second-worst on the team. Put simply, the outfielder hasn’t lived up to the hype early on in the campaign.
Beck certainly raised some eyebrows with a solid 2025 season, leading many to believe he could be a staple for the Rockies. Over 148 games, he hit .258 with 16 home runs, 53 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. The only problem is is the performance is now sandwiched between two questionable seasons. Through his first 55 games back in 2024, Beck hit .188 with three home runs, 13 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
You’d think Beck would be moving forward after 2025, but it has been the complete opposite. Of course, he has plenty of time to turn things around and could ultimately become the key outfielder Colorado is looking for. But if his struggles continue, the Rockies may be forced to look elsewhere.
It wasn’t long ago that Beck was considered one of the better prospects in Colorado’s organization. In 2024, he ranked fourth-overall for the Rockies and No. 81 in all of baseball, via MLB Pipeline. That both shows Beck’s potential, and also why he has been Colorado’s biggest flop thus far in 2026.
The Rockies are sure to still give the wide receiver a long leash based on where they stand in 2026. Ultimately, they need to see what they have in Beck long-term. Still, Colorado will need to justify having him in the lineup consistently, and a .080 batting average simply doesn’t cut it.
If Beck can turn things around, he could be a pivotal outfielder for the Rockies as they work their way towards a brighter future. But that light bulb moment needs to come sooner rather than later for the outfielder.
