Sean Murphy Begins Rehab at Triple-A Gwinnett
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Braves catcher Sean Murphy fell victim to the injuries that plagued the Braves last season. Just when he thought he was going to be able to return to play this Spring Training he was hit by a pitch and cracked a rib on Feb 28. It was expected that Murphy would miss up to six weeks of play in the regular season.

His recovery has been slow but this Braves team cannot afford to take any risks. Starting at 0-5 and adding to a growing injury list they have to be strategic with their lineups and the recovery of their key athletes.

Last season Murphy was one of if not the best catcher in the Majors and now is hoping to return to the same level of play he was at back in April of last year.

He was cleared for light activity back on March 22 practicing low impact skills both behind the plate and on it as well. It was announced by the Braves on April 1 that Murphy will make his return to play at Triple-A Gwinnett and begin his rehab assignment.

The Braves have done well finding an athlete to patch the hole left by Murphy being removed from the catchers position. The young Drake Baldwin has been filling his role nicely. However, with the loosing streak the Braves are currently on they are desperate for the talent and experience of Murphy.

It is not yet known when exactly he will return to the Majors but, if he performs well in Triple-A it can be expected that Braves fans will see Sean Murphy masked up behind home plate in just a few weeks.
