Texas Rangers Select First Baseman

The Texas Rangers start the second half tomorrow against the Detroit Tigers at home. Yesterday, they placed Jake Burger on the injured list with a quad strain. This morning, they selected newly signed Rowdy Tellez. Tellez became a free agent when the Mariners released him on June 26 and signed with the Rangers on July 5. In four games at Triple-A since signing, he’s hitting .333 with a 1.175 OPS. He has a double, two home runs, four RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Tellez played 62 games with Seattle before his release, hitting .208 with a .682 OPS. He had six doubles, 11 home runs, 27 RBI, 20 runs scored, a stolen base, and eight walks.

Rowdy Tellez

The Toronto Blue Jays drafted Tellez in the 30th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He has appeared in 726 career games across four big league teams. Having played for the Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Mariners. He has a career batting average of .232 with a .735 OPS. He has 103 doubles, three triples, 116 home runs, 346 RBI, 264 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 201 walks. He’s played in 613 minor league games, hitting .275 with an .800 OPS. He has 136 doubles, seven triples, 79 home runs, 371 RBI, 290 runs scored, 26 stolen bases, and 255 walks.
