The 'MLB All-Star Game starting pitchers' quiz

One year after winning his first American League Cy Young, Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal is set to make his first career All-Star Game start. Through 19 starts in 2025, Skubal has a lower ERA (2.23) than he posted in his Cy Young campaign (2.39) with 153 strikeouts in 121 innings. With New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone leading the American League and the game happening in Atlanta, there was some thought that Yankees ace Max Fried could start the All-Star Game in his former home ballpark. But Fried felt Skubal deserved to start and gave him a phone call.

“He asked me if I wanted to start the game. I told him ‘hey, if you want to start the game, I get it. I’m a fan of the game and want to watch that as well,’” said Skubal of their phone conversation.

“And [Fried] was like ‘I don’t care about the story. I think you deserve to start.’”

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Skubal will start for the American League while Paul Skenes will make his second-straight start for the National League. With that being said, how many of the pitchers to earn the honor of starting the Midsummer Classic can you name in six minutes?

Good luck!
