The New York Mets are going through a brutal stretch of losses that have continued following their 4-0 shutout loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.
Going into the game, New York has been going through a five-game losing streak after the season 7-5 in its first 12 games. Their offense has taken a nosedive as their defense has dealt with the costly effects of being unable to fend off opponents.
Those struggles continued against Los Angeles, the back-to-back World Series champions. In this series opener, the hosts performed well on both sides of the field as New York couldn’t lay a mark on them. As they went scoreless, reporter Aldan Gonzalez went further into the team’s struggles on the offensive side of the ball.
“The Mets were shut out for the second straight game and have now lost each of their last six. In those six games, they’ve scored a combined nine runs. The Minnesota Twins scored 43 in that same stretch,” Gonzalez wrote.
The Mets will need to get on back on track soon as they need to compete with the Dodgers throughout the three-game set.
Los Angeles scored all four of its runs within the first three innings. As for New York, the batting unit mustered up just three hits after 28 at-bats. Jorge Polanco, Francisco Alvarez and Marcus Semien were the lone players to land a hit against the Dodgers’ bullpen.
New York fell to a 7-10 record on the season, being at the bottom of the NL East Division standings. They currently trail the Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies. In terms of the conference standings, they sit at 13th place. They are above the Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants while trailing the Chicago Cubs and the Nationals.
Going through six consecutive losses, the Mets will look to bounce back in Game 2 of their series against the Dodgers. The game will take place on April 14 as first pitch will commence at 10:10 p.m. ET.
