Umpires, coaches, and trainers announced for 2024 All Star Game

With the 2024 MLB All-Star Game approaching on July 16th at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, the coaches, umpires, and trainers for the event have been announced.

Umpire Assignments

James Hoye, with 16 years of Major League experience, will oversee the All-Star Game from behind the plate. Hoye, who previously officiated the 2015 All-Star Game, has a distinguished career that includes assignments in two World Series, four League Championship Series, and several other pivotal games. His crew will consist of:

• Bruce Dreckman (First Base): Second career All-Star selection (first in 2010).
• John Tumpane (Second Base): First career All-Star selection.
• Nic Lentz (Third Base): First career All-Star selection.
• Ben May (Left Field): First career All-Star selection.
• Nestor Ceja (Right Field): Texas resident and first career All-Star selection.
• Rob Drake: Replay Official, also a 16-year Major League Umpire, who worked the 2013 All-Star Game on the field.

Honorary Coaches

This year’s All-Star Game will feature notable honorary coaches:

• Mark Kotsay (American League): Currently in his third season managing the Oakland Athletics, Kotsay will join Bruce Bochy’s staff. Kotsay has a rich background as a player and coach, including stints with the Florida Marlins, San Diego Padres, and several other teams.
• David Bell (National League): The Cincinnati Reds’ manager will join Torey Lovullo’s coaching team. Bell, 51, is the older brother of former Diamondbacks farm director Mike Bell, who served in that capacity through the 2011-2016 seasons. Before the 2019 season, the Reds hired David Bell to become their manager. He has a lifetime record of 350-399 with Cincinnati, including a 2020 Wild Card appearance.
