Veteran Went from 'Trash' to 'Treasure' After Leaving Yankees Former Teammate Says
Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

Gleyber Torres had his issues in the Bronx, no doubt. After finishing third in the American League Rookie of the Year voting and hitting 38 homers in 2029, the New York Yankees' one-time shortstop of the future struggled. He became the fan base’s (and th e general manager’s) favorite scapegoat.

Torres has now seemingly found his spot.

And his former Yankee teammate and current MLB analyst Cameron Maybin took notice.

“Under appreciated as usual,” Maybin tweeted after the game. “I know who's loving and appreciating him right now, and that's the Tigers fans. Yankees did the same thing with Didi, undervalued his game. Funny how it's not always greener on the other side. There's no perfect player but another man's trash is another man's treasure... Keep going GT.”

Torres is hitting .286/.340/.707 through his first 49 at-bats with the Tigers.

Meanwhile, the Yankees’ current second baseman may be an upgrade on defense, but he is currently struggling at the plate.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is batting .159 with seven home runs, 15 RBIs, and a .685 OPS over 24 games for the Yankees. While his power numbers are notable, his batting average and on-base percentage have been underwhelming.

The Yankees moved on from Torres after seven seasons, letting him walk without even a qualifying offer.

Detroit signed him to a one-year deal in December, giving him a chance to prove himself outside the noise of the Bronx. The Yankees have questions at second base, but according to Maybin, the Tigers may have found a treasure at second base
