On Sunday, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesus Sanchez was forced to leave the game against the Baltimore Orioles due to an apparent injury. After further review, the injury came after a fan appeared to throw a ball at Sanchez. The fan was located and escorted out.
The incident occurred with two men on and nobody out in the top of the sixth inning. After what looked like could have been a verbal altercation between someone in the stands and Sanchez, the fan threw the ball, and it hit Sanchez’s arm.
Before the ball was thrown, it looked as if Sanchez had his glove up, expecting the fan to throw the ball. It’s undetermined if anything was said or if this is some sort of misunderstanding. But after Sanchez looked away to get back into the action of the play, the ball struck his arm. After an update, the fan who threw the ball was indeed a young fan. The fan thought Sanchez was offering to play catch with him.
The Orioles have confirmed that the fan who threw the ball was removed from the game. The Blue Jays said Sanchez received X-rays, which came back negative. His removal was mostly precautionary.
