The Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Rate Field, completing a three-game sweep.
It was a classic pitchers’ duel that stayed low-scoring until the seventh inning. The White Sox trailed 1-0 for most of the game before mounting a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead for good.
White Sox right-hander Sean Burke turned in a pretty good start, allowing just one run over 5.1 innings of work. Burke kept the Tigers in check and gave Chicago a chance to win despite the early deficit. The bullpen then shut the door over the final three innings, allowing just two hits and preserving the narrow victory.
The White Sox broke through in the seventh. Colson Montgomery started the scoring with a solo home run to right, tying the game at 1-1.
Later in the frame, Chase Meidroth scored the go-ahead run on a single by Tristan Peters, giving Chicago a 2-1 lead it would not relinquish.
Those were the only two runs the White Sox scored all afternoon, but they came at the perfect time.
The sweep improves the White Sox to 32-27 on the season and extends their winning streak to five games. With Munetaka Murakami sidelined, Chicago continues to find ways to win with contributions from other parts of the lineup. Sunday’s victory was another example of the gritty, one-run baseball the Sox have been playing so far in 2026.
