Will the Giants Trade Rafael Devers?

Expectations could not have been any higher for the San Francisco Giants entering this season.

With a plethora of talent on their roster led by first-year manager Tony Vitello, it looked like the Giants were going to snap their four year playoff drought. That obviously has not been the case this year.

San Francisco enters play on Monday with the third-worst record in the National League at 44-61 and with the trade deadline now just a week away, they're expected to be major sellers.

Since June, there have been many reports that the Giants were willing to trade away one of their premier players, including Luis Arráez, Matt Chapman and Heliot Ramos, just to name a few.

Rafael Devers' name has also been circling in trade rumors. The Giants acquired Devers in a blockbuster deal with the Boston Red Sox in June 2025. While moving on from Devers, a year after acquiring him, would be a stunning move, there has been at least some level of conversation regarding his potential availability.

During an appearance on MLB Network on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that "at least" one interested team reached out to the Giants about trading for Devers. Heyman, though, added that this deal would be a long shot, given Devers' current contract.

At the time of the trade, Devers was only in the third year of a 10-year, $313.5 million extension he inked with Boston in January 2023.

Since acquiring the 29-year-old, the Giants have gone 69-93 and will once again miss out on postseason baseball after the addition of Devers was thought to be the missing piece.

The Giants will have a lot of decisions to make between now and next week's trade deadline, and while a Devers deal seems unlikely, his future in the Bay Area is certainly in a little bit of flux.

The MLB trade deadline is Monday, August 3 at 6 p.m. EST.
