The New York Yankees lost three straight games before Tuesday night’s game against the San Diego Padres. Their losing streak had fans talking about a potential trade to reignite New York’s offense . Aaron Judge kicked it off with his 12th home run of the season in the fourth inning. However, the Yankees pulled away in the seventh inning. Ben Rice and Austin Wells were featured in a 10-run inning that decided the game.
Judge’s home run was the longest hit ball in the game before Wells one-upped him with a grand slam to put the finishing touch on the dominant frame, according to Fox Sports’ social media. The catcher is reveling in one of the best years of his career, clearing the bases with one of his best swings of the season.

New York took advantage of former Yankee Wandy Peralta in the explosive seven innings, scoring six suns on him. Rice’s two-run double ended Adrian Morejon’s night on the mound in an inning where Mike Shildt needed to use to relievers to get three outs. Major League Baseball fans reacted to the Yankees’ big inning, showing their support for New York.

“GO HOME,” another fan said to the Padres, who walked away with a 12-3 loss.

The Yankees will enjoy Wells’ big night for now, but they hope that the team’s 10-run inning begins a larger change. Outside of Judge and Rice, New York’s offense is in a rough patch. The Yankees lost four of their last five games heading into Tuesday’s game, but they hope tonight’s performance gets things back on track.
New York’s offense is one of the best in the league, and they are atop the American League East. The team has big goals for the season, looking to avenge their World Series loss in 2024.

Craig Kimbrel lands with World Series contender after latest release
Craig Kimbrel is hoping to make an impact with an MLB team down the stretch, and a World Series contender is giving the former All-Star reliever a shot. Kimbrel agreed to a big-league contract with the Houston Astros on Thursday, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Kimbrel began the 2025 season with the Atlanta Braves after signing a minor-league contract with them in March. The right-hander started out with the Double-A Columbus Clingstones and did not give up a hit in three appearances. Kimbrel was then promoted to the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers, where he went 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA and 23 strikeouts over 18 innings. The Braves added Kimbrel to their active roster on June 6. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning in Atlanta's 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants that day. Kimbrel allowed a walk and a hit in the inning. The following day, Atlanta made the puzzling decision to designate Kimbrel for assignment. Kimbrel opted for free agency rather than accepting his minor league assignment. He then signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers but never made it to their MLB roster. Kimbrel was granted his release on Thursday and signed with Houston. Kimbrel, 37, is a nine-time All-Star who has pitched for eight different teams during his MLB career. He led the National League in saves four times and was one of the best relief pitchers in the league during his prime. Kimbrel also helped the Boston Red Sox win a World Series in 2018. The Astros were 69-58 entering Thursday and had a 1.5-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West. If Kimbrel is healthy, he could provide Houston with some valuable bullpen depth over the final stretch of the season.

These college QBs are set to earn millions in 2025
Quarterback is the most important position in football, and the money given to top signal-callers — both in the NFL and at the collegiate level — supports that. On3's Pete Nakos detailed on Thursday what some of the top quarterbacks in college football will earn during the upcoming season. Nakos writes that at least five QBs will make roughly $3 million in the 2025 campaign, while more than 20 starting quarterbacks will command at least $1 million. It's important, for context, to note that these financial figures include direct revenue-sharing from schools and/or NIL deals from third-party collectives. Leading the way among 2025 quarterbacks is Duke's Darian Mensah. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound redshirt sophomore, from San Luis Obispo, Calif., will earn $4 million this year, part of a two-year, $8 million contract with the Blue Devils. Mensah transferred to Duke from Tulane, where in 2024 he threw for 2,723 yards with 22 touchdowns against just six interceptions. True freshman Bryce Underwood of Michigan is set to collect $3 million this season, which is a massive number for someone who has never taken an official snap in college. Still, the 6-foot-4, 228-pound Underwood is a significant contender to win the Wolverines' starting QB job in 2025. The native of Belleville, Mich., was the No. 1 national prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. Redshirt senior Carson Beck transferred from Georgia to Miami in the offseason, and he will make $3 million to $3.2 million this season to start, in a deal that could be worth up to $6 million with incentives, per Nakos. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Beck, who is from Jacksonville, Fla., tallied 3,485 passing yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2024. According to the On3 article, Nebraska's Dylan Raiola will earn more than $3 million in total compensation during the 2025 season. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound sophomore, who hails from Buford, Ga., threw for 2,819 yards with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as a true freshman. Last year, Raiola guided the Cornhuskers to a 7-6 record and a bowl-game triumph. Drew Allar will look to lead Penn State on another deep College Football Playoff run in 2025, and the senior quarterback will earn at least $3 million during the upcoming campaign. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Allar, from Medina, Ohio, threw for 3,327 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions a year ago as Penn State made the CFP semifinals. The Nittany Lions are No. 2 in the preseason Associated Press top-25 poll. Other quarterbacks who are expected to make big bucks in the 2025 season include Oklahoma's John Mateer ($2.5 million to $3 million), Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia (at least $2 million), Kansas State's Avery Johnson (at least $2 million), South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers ($1.8 million), TCU's Josh Hoover ($1.75 million) and Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby ($1.5 million to $1.7 million), among others.
Two NASCAR teams dealt serious penalties ahead of Daytona Cup Series race
A pair of NASCAR Cup Series teams will be at a major disadvantage when the green flag flies for Saturday's Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway. An unapproved adjustment made by the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports team led to William Byron's crew chief, Rudy Fugle, being ejected from the speedway. The No. 24 Chevrolet initially passed inspection before the adjustment was made. Byron will also have to drop to the rear of the field before the start of the race, and will also have to serve a stop-and-go penalty on pit road after taking the green flag. Byron's team also lost pit stall on selection for Saturday's race. The No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports team also incurred a penalty after inspection on Friday. B.J. McLeod's Chevrolet failed inspection twice, with car chief Lee Leslie also being ejected from the speedway. McLeod also lost pit stall selection, though he will not have to serve a stop-and-go penalty like Byron. Byron, the two-time defending Daytona 500 champion, will have a much tougher road to his fourth Daytona victory. He's looking for his first win in Daytona's summer race since 2020, when he earned his first career win in the 2020 Coke Zero Sugar 400. Ryan Blaney will start on the pole for Saturday's race, which serves as the Cup Series regular season finale.
