June has arrived, and fans of the New York Yankees are well aware of what has seemingly become a yearly tradition. Luckily, manager Aaron Boone is well aware of this narrative.

The longtime skipper weighed in on the Yankees’ 2025 “June swoon,” and offered some level of explanation for why the club struggled ahead of Wednesday night’s contest against the Cleveland Guardians.

“We sucked last June for two weeks,” Boone said. “But there are factors in that. You don’t get to pick when you’re the most whole throughout the year. Had we been a little different in June, it wouldn’t have happened that. It’s all annoying.”

New York endured a six-game losing skid last June and finished the month with a 13-14 record. During this span, they earned just a .718 OPS despite pitching to a solid 3.19 ERA.

The Yankees lost their first game of this June, 9-4, to the Guardians. Their lineup was likely impacted by the absence of reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge, who is currently considered day-to-day with a bone bruise on his upper right rib.

“Huge loss in the lineup and we all gotta pick it up around him,” Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger told reporters.

It remains to be seen how the Yankees will respond to the captain’s ailment or the prospect of another potentially daunting June, but it is clear that Boone and his team understand the task at hand.

“I’m not worried. I was really happy with the offense there in the early innings,” Yankees starting pitcher Cam Schlittler noted after the series opener against Cleveland. “Usually four innings is gonna get the job done.”
