The 2025 New York Yankees offense is giving their fans flashbacks to the good old days, including the last time the Bronx Bombers won the World Series. Through just 51 games, the Bronx Bombers have already launched 14 innings with five or more runs scored. According to Baseball-Reference's Katie Sharp, that nearly matches their total from all 162 games in 2024, when they managed 15 innings with five or more runs.
But the one that makes fans’ hearts skip a beat is the one they accomplished on Saturday in the 13-1 win over the Rockies. The Yankees have twice erupted for 10 or more runs in a single inning this season. The first time they did it this year was on May 6 in a win over the Padres. The only other time in franchise history they pulled off two 10-plus run innings in one season was back in 2009. That was the last time the Yankees won the World Series.
That 2009 team was known for its ability to ignite in bursts. There were innings where the bats came alive and opponents suddenly found themselves staring down the barrel of a Yankees avalanche. Seeing that kind of power flare up twice already in 2025 has to get fans thinking: could this be a throwback season in the making?
They also had a left-handed ace that season in CC Sabathia, just like they have Max Fried now. But that’s besides the point.
While it’s still early, these big innings feel like more than just flashes. They feel like a statement. The Yankees remind everyone that they still know how to blow a game wide open with relentless offense, a hallmark of some of the franchise’s greatest teams.
If this trend holds, the 2025 Yankees could be setting themselves up for a season in which history repeats itself.
