The New York Yankees were dealt more unfortunate news before their contest on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Yankees enter the matchup on a two-game losing streak.
Per MLB.com, New York will be without Aaron Judge on Saturday. The right fielder is dealing with an "elbow issue."
Judge played in Friday night's 12-5 loss to Philadelphia, going 0-for-3. It's unclear when he suffered the injury.
"The Yankees will be without their Captain to begin Saturday's game, as Aaron Judge was not in the lineup against the Phillies and left-handed starter Ranger Suárez. Manager Aaron Boone said Judge has been dealing with 'an elbow issue,' and the team is awaiting results of imaging tests.
"Judge had been seen grimacing in pain after making a throw during Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, though it's not known if it was related to his elbow."
The Yankees plan to start Cody Bellinger at right field on Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Giancarlo Stanton will bat at the No. 4 spot as a designated hitter.
Judge has been New York's best hitter this season. He's batting .342 with 37 home runs and 85 RBI. He leads the league in batting average and hits (129). He has the second-most RBI.
Judge's injury comes at a bad time for New York. The Yankees have lost three out of their last four games. They trail the Toronto Blue Jays by 5.5 games in the AL East but are holding on to a wild-card spot by two games.
Yankees batters are set to go against a tough Phillies pitcher in Ranger Suarez. The left-hander has a 2.66 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 88.0 innings pitched this season. Philadelphia is 7-4 with Suarez on the mound.
