With Spring Training just days away from kicking off, the St. Louis Cardinals have been looking for ways to add depth to the organization. The big story of the week, of course, has been the three-team swap with the Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays centered around All-Star utility man Brendan Donovan.
Their moves over the last 24 hours say it’s evaluation time before they make their offseason plans. It’s call-up season in Detroit. On Saturday the Tigers announced that they had recalled first baseman Spencer Torkelson from Triple-A Toledo.
The Tigers announced a series of roster moves prior to today’s game. Right-hander Reese Olson was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain and infielder/outfielder Ryan Vilade was optioned to Triple-A Toledo.
