Cain Velasquez is making his return to the MMA world in a broadcast role.
The former two-time UFC heavyweight champion, released from prison in February after nearly a year behind bars, will serve as a guest analyst at MVP MMA: Rousey vs. Carano this Saturday. He will be joined in that capacity by another former heavyweight titleholder in Jon Jones.
Velasquez pleaded no contest to attempted murder charges stemming from an incident in which he fired a weapon at a moving vehicle carrying a man accused of assaulting a junior family member. He served close to a year before his release in February and has since been reintegrating into the MMA community.
Velasquez won the UFC heavyweight title on two separate occasions between 2010 and 2015, establishing himself as one of the most dominant champions the division has seen before injuries derailed the later stages of his career.
The event itself brings together Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano in a featherweight bout contested over five rounds, streamed live on Netflix. Rousey has been away from MMA since December 2016. Carano's last fight was in 2009.
