Charles Oliveira may be preoccupied with his UFC Rio headliner tonight; however, he’s ready to squash a rising feud with a fan-favorite finisher.
Returning to headline the promotion’s return to his native Brazil, former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira makes his first return to home soil to compete for over five years.
And pitted against Polish star Mateusz Gamrot, the duo shared a tense pre-fight face-off, with Oliveira needing to put to bed a worrying stat when facing European competition in his return.
However, the ex-champion has also offered to settle his differences with an emerging top contender who ripped his performance en route to his shocking knockout loss to Ilia Topuria.
Suffering a hellacious knockout loss to unbeaten megastar Topuria just over 100 days ago, Oliveira wasted no time in booking his return to home soil in Rio de Janeiro.
However, ripped for his one-sided loss to the Spanish finisher, Oliveira’s tactical approach was the subject of much discourse by top contender Paddy Pimblett.
Branding the Brazilian as “stupid” and “amateur” for electing to trade with the heavy-handed Topuria, Pimblett has now been offered a route back to action by Oliveira — with Topuria expected to usher in a new UFC era next year against a different foe.

“Listen, people are going to say what they want to say, but let’s see,” Oliveira told Newsweek Sports ahead of UFC Rio.
“I’m going to be ready. I always want to fight, and I’ll be ready to fight if needed,” Oliveira continued, referencing Pimblett’s recent comments. “…This only makes me laugh. That’s real talk.”
Hoping to make another run at the lightweight crown off the back of his fight with Gamrot on short notice tonight, Oliveira has already laid out some lofty plans.
Set for his fourth fight in two years, Oliveira wants to keep that activity ticking over next year, vowing to fight on the summer White House card in Washington.
And naming a specific opponent, Oliveira wants to steal an opponent from Michael Chandler — having already beaten the ex-Bellator poster boy in two standout wins.
