Charles Oliveira will have to overcome daunting 85% statistic that he contributed to at UFC Rio

Charles Oliveira has statistics both in his favor and going against him ahead of his return.

On Saturday night, the Brazilian legend will face Mateusz Gamrot in a lightweight main event.

The former UFC lightweight champion has recorded some incredible accomplishments throughout his storied career.

Oliveira is now just one win away from equaling a fellow icon’s record for the most finishes in Zuffa history.

Though it isn’t just Oliveira’s record against European fighters that he’ll have to overcome in order to emerge victorious on Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro.

Brazilian fighters haven’t fared well in UFC main events in 2025

With a new nickname in tow, Charles Oliveira will look to produce a bounce back win when he fights in Brazil for the first time in five years.

Oliveira’s knockout loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 317 wasn’t just a worrying defeat in terms of his title ambitions, it marked a continuing trend for his fellow Brazilians.

There have been some notable losses for his fellow countrymen and women in 2025.

Renato Moicano was submitted by Islam Makhachev at the first PPV event of the year, before Alex Pereira lost his light heavyweight title two months later.

This then built up a record of 10 consecutive losses for Brazilian fighters in UFC main events, which Johnny Walker snapped in August.

It should be noted that in two of the 14 main events that have featured Brazilian fighters in 2025, both of the competitors have been from the same country, which improves the overall win percentage slightly.

That doesn’t change the fact that in main events where a Brazilian fighter has featured this year, a Brazilian has suffered a defeat 85.71% of the time.

Oliveira will look to join Mackenzie Dern, Walker, Diego Lopes, and Pereira on the winning side of this bracket on October 11.

There is only one other Brazilian fighter that is booked for a main event following UFC Rio

After Charles Oliveira attempts to even out his loss from earlier this year by adding another win for the Brazilian fighters in 2025, this statistic isn’t going to change all that much.

We still don’t know what every main event matchup will be through the remainder of the year.

However, at this time, there’s only one other Brazilian fighter that is set to compete in a main event following UFC Rio this Saturday, and it’s not one that you would expect.

Fans were very surprised to see Gabriel Bonfim vs Randy Brown be elevated to headliner status, with the two welterweights set to collide at the UFC Apex on November 8.
