Georges St-Pierre built his career in an era when fighter pay and treatment weren’t openly discussed. The sport’s culture didn’t really allow for it. However, now thinks that era needs to end, and that the fighters best positioned to change it are the ones currently at the top.
In recent years, fighters like Ronda Rousey and Francis Ngannou have openly criticized the UFC, but only after leaving the company. For now, Georges St-Pierre believes more legends of the sport should speak out about the problems in the UFC. As per him, it could push the company to make positive changes.
“I think it’s the job of the celebrities, the ones who have the platform, to be vocal. The torch has been passed to them, and if they want fighters to be treated better, that’s their job while they’re in the spotlight right now,” GSP said.
GSP believes it’s the responsibility of MMA’s biggest stars to speak up for better fighter treatment. ️

The fighter pay conversation in MMA has been running for years without much structural change. Individual fighters have spoken up and faced varying degrees of pushback for doing so.
Whether the current generation picks up that torch is a different question. Speaking up about pay and treatment carries professional risk even for stars. And most fighters are conditioned from early in their careers to focus on the next fight rather than the business surrounding it.
GSP has picked his five greatest of all time, which is worth paying attention to. He competed against or alongside most of the names he’s putting forward, which gives his list a credibility that armchair rankings rarely carry. Royce Gracie leads it, and that choice alone tells that GSP is thinking historically rather than just technically.
Demetrious Johnson sits alongside names who competed at far higher-profile events and in front of far bigger audiences. Meanwhile, Jon Jones and Anderson Silva represent the era of divisional dominance, two fighters who made their respective weight classes feel completely solved while at their peak.

Conor McGregor, closing the list, is the selection that generates the most debate. The career record isn’t GOAT level by volume. But GSP is clearly weighing cultural impact, crossover appeal, and McGregor’s role in expanding the sport’s global reach. Meanwhile, he feels every top star should raise their voice.
