Following her highly disputed loss in Texas, boxing legend Holly Holm received a wave of support, headlined by a deeply emotional message from pioneer Gina Carano. Fighting at the El Paso County Coliseum, the 44-year-old Holm fell short of capturing the WBA women’s lightweight title. She lost via a razor-thin majority decision to hometown favorite Stephanie Han.

The defeat was a bitter pill to swallow for the former UFC champion. Despite outlanding Han 102 to 70 and dictating much of the pace, two judges scored the bout 96–94 in Han’s favor.

The decision left Holm visibly dejected. In an emotional post-fight press conference, the Albuquerque native poured her heart out, candidly disagreeing with the judges’ decision and expressing her firm belief that she had done enough to win the world title.

Holm’s raw vulnerability struck a chord with fans and peers alike, prompting former MMA star and actress Gina Carano to take to social media. In a post she uploaded, Carano admitted she was moved to tears by Holm’s raw honesty.

The Heartfelt Reaction From Gina Carano

Pouring her heart out, Carano wrote, “I’ve got tears on this one…I look up to @HollyHolm so much. I deeply admire her. She’s the hardest working female athlete I’ve ever been around.”

Carano went on to praise Holm’s humility and straightforward, no-drama disposition, noting how rare it is to see her show that side of herself. She lauded Holm for letting her fights speak for themselves and beautifully putting her vulnerability on display when it mattered most.

Acknowledging the razor-thin margins of the bout, Carano noted that the fight was incredibly hard to score due to the clash of two entirely different styles. Even while congratulating Han on a smooth and calm performance, Carano made sure to remind the combat sports world of Holm’s unmatched legacy.

Closing her message with a declaration of love “as a friend and fan,” Carano reminded the veteran fighter that it remains an absolute honor to watch her compete.
