Stella Hemetsberger made history at ONE Fight Night 35 on Friday, September 5, capturing the vacant ONE Women’s Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship with a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over kickboxing queen Jackie Buntan. The 26-year-old striker became Austria’s first-ever ONE Championship titleholder while handing Buntan a devastating setback in her quest for two-sport glory.

First Round Proves Decisive For Stella Hemetsberger

Stella Hemetsberger’s championship performance was defined by explosive first-round action that saw her drop the Filipina-American twice with short, yet powerful, right punches. Those two knockdowns provided the decisive margin in a closely contested five-round battle that showcased the technical excellence of both strikers.

Despite Buntan’s valiant efforts to rally in the later rounds, the early damage proved insurmountable as “Always Hungry” maintained her composure to secure the unanimous decision victory. The Austrian’s patient approach and calculated striking demonstrated the championship mentality that carried her to gold.

“Getting a knockdown and then two knockdowns give confidence, but I think I felt confident before the fight as well, trusting in my abilities and trusting in my team. We prepared for everything. We didn’t put a specific game plan to exactly execute one technique, but we worked to be overall complete and be ready for everything,” Stella Hemetsberger explained.

Stella Hemetsberger’s Historic Achievement

The victory carries special significance as Stella Hemetsberger becomes the first Austrian fighter to capture ONE gold, marking a watershed moment for her nation’s martial arts representation. Training out of Phuket Fight Club and RS-GYM, the newly crowned titleholder expressed immense pride in representing Austria on the world’s largest martial arts stage.

“I’m the first contracted fighter in ONE Championship [from Austria], and now I’m the first Austrian to win a ONE Championship belt. It feels amazing to represent my country here in ONE Championship, showing in Thailand that I’m from Austria, Europe,” she stated with obvious pride.

The historic achievement improves Stella Hemetsberger’s perfect ONE record to 4-0 while establishing her as a major force in the competitive strawweight divisions across multiple striking disciplines.

Now Stella Hemetsberger Wants Buntan Kickboxing Belt

The hunger isn’t ending for the new Muay Thai queen. Fresh off her title victory, Stella Hemetsberger immediately set her sights on potential two-sport championship status by targeting Buntan’s ONE Women’s Strawweight Kickboxing World Title. The Austrian champion expressed interest in a rematch under different rules while remaining open to whatever opportunities arise.

“I think with our fight today, it would be a good fight to do a rematch, and also for people to watch. I’m happy either way, what opportunity we get, what the next fight is. But yeah, I would like to fight kickboxing again as well,” Hemetsberger revealed her ambitious future plans.

The defeat represents a significant setback for Buntan, who saw her dreams of becoming only the third two-sport queen in ONE history dashed by the Austrian’s precision striking.
