Paddy Pimblett evidently won’t give up until the Ilia Topuria sweepstakes come to an end.
Pimblett has been one of three fighters pursuing the first shot at dethroning the newly crowned lightweight champion since UFC 317 this past June.
In the main event at International Fight Week, Topuria knocked out Charles Oliveira to become a two-division champ in the sport’s leading promotion. His first defense at 155 pounds remains unconfirmed, but the UFC is not short on options for ‘El Matador’.
In addition to ‘The Baddy’, both Arman Tsarukyan and Justin Gaethje have staked their claims. But it is Pimblett who is ensuring that he is the most vocal.
Pimblett dominated Michael Chandler at UFC 314 in the most recent win of his undefeated Octagon run. For many, such a result does not warrant an immediate title shot for the No. 9-ranked contender.
The Scouser, however, has the advantage of a built-in storyline with the champ due to animosity dating back to 2022. Pimblett also faced off with Topuria after the main event at UFC 317, setting the stage for a potential clash down the line.
Though Dana White and the UFC have remained coy on what is next for the Spanish champ, Pimblett still firmly believes he is the right choice.
And he once again made that claim on social media recently, posting a video compilation that explained why he should get the nod over both Gaethje and Tsarukyan.
“Ready whenever,” Pimblett wrote in the caption on X.

While Pimblett continues to plead his case and believes a grudge match with Topuria is the UFC’s best option, it is safe to say that a potential title shot for ‘The Baddy’ is polarizing.
Among those who have pushed back on that possibility is ex-title challenger Al Iaquinta, who assessed the title picture in his former division while speaking to Bloody Elbow.
Iaquinta insisted the UFC can’t choose Pimblett to fight Topuria next but acknowledged that a focus on pay-per-view sales means the promotion may do so.
“I hope they don’t give it to Paddy,” Iaquinta said. “They can’t give it to Paddy.
“I don’t think he’s fought the caliber of guys. They’ve definitely given him the favorable matchups. I think the last three opponents he’s (fought) are on like a 10-fight losing streak.
“But there is the bad blood (with Topuria),” Iaquinta continued. “They got the bad blood. Bad blood goes a long way. Selling pay-per-views, at the end of the day, that’s all the UFC really cares about. It’s not about who’s rightfully deserving of it, but more who can sell the more pay-per-views.”
