Kyle Busch Makes Interesting Confession Why No. 8 Car Hasn't Won in 69 Races

Kyle Busch isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion joined Richard Childress on Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway to announce he had signed a contract extension to stay behind the wheel of the No. 8 Chevrolet with Richard Childress Racing through the 2026 season.

Busch, who joined the two-car organization in 2023, brought instant excitement and experience to the organization, delivering three wins in that first season. But there's been a noticeable decline in performance and the 40-year-old is currently in the midst of the longest winless streak of his career at 69 races.

During the announcement, Busch made an interesting confession and offered surprising insight into the challenges the team has faced amid NASCAR’s evolving rulebook.

“Being able to continue on when I first joined, I feel like there was some things that we were doing within the rules at that time that got us some extra speed," Busch said. "And then, you know, there was definitely some things that kind of came down that they didn't like us doing. And so that's sort of where we've lost a little bit if people are wondering why have we not been able to win like we did in the first 16 races."

Despite the setbacks, No. 8 pilot emphasized the importance of continuity and collaboration moving forward. “So, it's just a matter of being able to continue to work with the people that are there,” he said.

The extension underscores RCR’s belief in Busch’s talent and leadership as the team works to adapt and compete under NASCAR’s ever-tightening regulations.

Interestingly, within an hour of the announcement, the RCR driver hit the track and failed to make a lap during practice due to a steering issue. The team also had radio communication issues. He did, however, make a qualifying run and finished 24th.
