Layne Riggs completes improbable comeback to win NASCAR Truck Series race at Nashville

Layne Riggs may have simply wanted to make things entertaining for the fans in Friday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Nashville Superspeedway.

The stat sheet will tell you that Riggs started the race from the pole, won Stage 1 and led 98 of 150 laps en route to victory.

But Riggs, who passed Rajah Caruth for the win with two laps to go, drove the race of his life to claim his third win of 2026 and the eighth of his Truck Series career.

Riggs lost the lead to Kaden Honeycutt on pit road and then got mired back in traffic after several trucks stayed out. He pitted late in the race for fresh tires and, with the benefit of a late caution, made up ground and got back inside the top 10.

Still, it was improbable that Riggs could drive into the top five, let alone get to the lead. But that's what he did, even after Andres Perez got loose in front of him and stalled his momentum.

Riggs passed Ross Chastain for third and his Front Row Motorsports teammate in Chandler Smith for second before getting around Caruth for the lead.

"That's how you win a NASTruck race right there, boys and girls," Riggs told Fox Sports.

Riggs had fresher tires on the race's final run after crew chief Dylan Cappello opted to bring him down following a previous stint that saw the No. 34 fall backwards in traffic.

Honeycutt, who led the series standings going into Friday's race, was running third when he had electrical issues in Stage 3, taking him out of contention for the race win. He finished 27th.

The start of Friday's race was delayed by nearly three hours due to rain after qualifying was canceled and practice was ended early due to previous showers.

Notable results

Caruth, Smith, Chastain and Tyler Ankrum rounded out the top five, with Stewart Friesen, Grant Enfinger, Christian Eckes, Gio Ruggiero and Daniel Dye completing the top 10.

Other notable finishers include Parker Retzlaff in 11th, Ty Majeski in 12th, Daniel Hemric in 15th, Corey LaJoie in 22nd and Ben Rhodes in 28th.

Riggs now leads Honeycutt by 37 points in the standings through 11 races in 2026. There are seven races remaining in the Truck Series regular season before the Chase begins.
