The first stage was relatively controversy free, with only one notable wreck in the early going. William Byron took early control and never relinquished, taking home the stage win comfortably.

The winner of the Daytona 500 held off a late charge by Ryan Preece on the faster option tires, an impressive showing. Byron collected some extra NASCAR Cup Series points as a result.

Hocevar, Briscoe, Haley, Riley Herbst, Cole Custer, Shane van Gisbergen and Brad Keselowski were all caught up in the chop, which took some time to clear from the track.

The stage ended with a late battle between Joey Logano on wearing-down option tires and Christopher Bell on the standard yellows. Bell took home the stage win to threaten for a NASCAR three-peat after coming in off back-to-back race wins at Atlanta and Texas.
