Ty Gibbs paces NASCAR Xfinity Series practice in Mexico City

Ty Gibbs was the fastest man in Mexico City on Saturday morning. 

The 22-year-old driver, who participates full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, topped the speed charts in NASCAR Xfinity Series practice at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, setting a fastest time of 92.979 seconds. 

Connor Zilisch, Christopher Bell, Daniel Suarez and Jesse Love rounded out the top five, with Austin Hill, Sam Mayer, Sheldon Creed, Nick Sanchez and Carson Kvapil completing the top 10. 

Other notable practice results include defending Xfinity Series champion Justin Allgaier in 12th, Sage Karam in 14th, Brandon Jones in 19th, Andres Perez in 22nd and Ruben Rovelo in 29th. 

Anthony Alfredo was the slowest car in the session and was only able to run three laps after suffering a hard crash due to a brake failure. 

Xfinity Series qualifying is next on the CW App, with coverage of the Chilango 150 beginning at 4 p.m. ET on the CW, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Pre-race coverage will start at 3:30 p.m. ET on the CW and MRN. 

Saturday's race marks the first time since 2008 that the NASCAR Xfinity Series has visited Mexico City. Kyle Busch won the last time the series visited Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
