DeMarcus Cousins starred in one of the most bizarre moments in the 2021 NBA playoffs when he forgot the free throw rules, missing a big chance for his team to score.

The Los Angeles Clippers tried to get closer to the Phoenix Suns in the last seconds of the game. Boogie went to the line to take a free throw, ready to miss it so his teammates could grab the rebound. What followed is one of the weirdest and funniest sequences we've seen in this year's playoffs.

Instead of touching the rim, Boogie directly smashed the ball at the backboard, which is forbidden. The refs called the violation immediately, with the Clippers fans and players completely shocked after Cousins' blunder. Even Tyronn Lue couldn't believe his eyes, giving a funny look at his player.

Of course, NBA fans didn't take too long to react to this, roasting Cousins on social media after that horrible play.

Bro how u been in the league for 11 years and forget the rule

Boogie “JR” Cousins

Rookie mistake by a seasoned vet

Kawhi went crazy

Refs tried to give the clippers the game and they still couldn’t win it

One of these is true:

1 he didn’t know he had to hit the rim

2 he was actually trying to hit the rim

Looks like he was trying to hit it hard off the backboard and have it clip the rim on the way back so it goes directly to him. We would’ve regarded him as a genius had he pulled it off, except, well yeah he missed it by 2 ft and now he just looks like an idiot.

Boogie was probably wondering why nobody ever does that

Guys look it's so easy

If I just run with the ball instead of dribbling... I'll be unstoppable!

I hate to say it but that is just peak boogie

This guy is in a whole new level... He is not afraid of taking freethrows... Ben Simmons should learn from him.

Cousins: this is what u get when don’t let me play for the entire game

Why is it everytime this dude is on the floor , bad things are happening to his team lmao

At this point, cousins won't be even good enough for the shanghai sharks.

Steven Adams: Only I can make this play work lmao

Besides Boogie, Paul George missed two clutch free throws, closing the door for the Clippers against the Suns. The Californians had several chances to win the game, and they blew them all. Now they're 3-1 down, and the next game is at Phoenix. They need to step up to keep their Finals hopes alive.
