Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo did well to keep his eyes on the prize after Milwaukee toppled the Brooklyn Nets in overtime on Saturday night to clinch an Eastern Conference Finals showdown with the Atlanta Hawks. As he told reporters shortly after the victory, "the job is not done."
While that's true, it's never too early to think about potential NBA Finals matchups. Heading into Wednesday's Game 1 between the Bucks and Hawks, BetOnline.ag listed the "Greek Freak" and two-time regular-season Most Valuable Player as the favorite to win NBA Finals MVP at +125. Coming off the Phoenix Suns opening a 1-0 Western Conference Finals lead over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, Phoenix's Devin Booker is second on the list at +250:
The Greek Freak is now favored to win NBA Finals MVP— BetOnline.ag (@betonline_ag) June 22, 2021
Giannis Antetokounmpo +125
Devin Booker +250
Chris Paul +450
Paul George +1000
Kris Middleton +1200
Trae Young +1200
Jrue Holiday +2000
Kawhi Leonard +2000
Deandre Ayton +2500
Bogdan Bogdanovic +6600
Interestingly, Suns guard Chris Paul is third at +450 even though he will miss at least the first two games of the Conference Finals due to health and safety protocols related to COVID-19. With the Clippers' Kawhi Leonard (+1800 to win NBA Finals MVP) sidelined by a knee injury that could keep him out indefinitely, taking a flier on Paul now could prove to be a wise investment down the road.
Those who believe Atlanta's Trae Young is on a mission should take him at +1200 and run to the figurative bet window before the teams play Wednesday evening — unless one assumes Milwaukee will take care of business in Game 1 and, thus, cause Young to become an even larger underdog to win NBA Finals MVP.
