Bulls join pursuit of Clippers RFA Bennedict Mathurin

Stein previously reported that New Orleans has been exploring ways to move Jordan Hawkins’ contract in an effort to create additional financial flexibility. If the Pelicans can shed salary, they could use a significant portion of their midlevel exception to extend an offer sheet to Mathurin.

Now comes Chicago. The Bulls’ reported interest gives Mathurin another possible landing spot if negotiations with the Clippers continue to drag on.

Los Angeles acquired the 24-year-old wing from the Pacers in February, and he’s remained one of the more intriguing restricted free agents still waiting for clarity this offseason.

Mathurin has shown the ability to score in bunches while still offering room for growth, making him an understandable target for teams looking to add a young perimeter piece.

Whether Chicago ultimately makes a serious push remains to be seen.

But with another team now entering the picture, Mathurin’s restricted free agency may finally be starting to gain some momentum.
