The Cavaliers have released their 21-player training camp roster, and there will be actual jobs and rotation minutes at stake.
Cleveland’s group includes its established core of Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, along with major offseason additions Peyton Watson and Mario Hezonja.
The roster announced by the Cavaliers also features recent camp additions Kadary Richmond, Zack Austin, Rashaun Agee and Curtis Jones.
Watson appears positioned to take over at small forward. Most of the intrigue should come behind the starters.
Craig Porter Jr., Meleek Thomas and Tyrese Proctor are among the candidates for minutes at backup point guard. Nae’Qwan Tomlin and Hezonja could compete for the reserve power forward role, while the camp invitees attempt to earn roster spots or opportunities with the Cleveland Charge.
The Cavs will hold media day Monday before traveling to Fuengirola, Spain. Camp will run from Sept. 30 through Oct. 5 at The Embassy training center.
Cleveland opens its preseason Oct. 8 against the Celtics. The Cavs then face the Magic at home Oct. 11 before visiting Orlando on Oct. 13.
The roster is mostly set. The pecking order behind the starters is where camp could get interesting.
