Celtics' Jaylen Brown Named Serious Trade Target For Spurs

The Boston Celtics are a team that will likely be very active on the trade market this offseason. There are some players that they are looking to get rid of to shed some salary on their books.

Jaylen Brown is a player that they could trade in order to help that issue, but he's not one that the Celtics want to get rid of. They would only part with him for a massive haul.

That hasn't stopped other teams from thinking about trying to make a move for him. In fact, one Western Conference team with a lot of assets could be targeting him.

The Spurs could try to offer the world to the Celtics for Jaylen Brown

The San Antonio Spurs are a team that everyone is expecting to be active this offseason on the trade market. They have a young team that is built around a generational player.

If they strike out trying to land Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, they could turn their attention to Jaylen Brown. In doing so, they could offer a generous package.

San Antonio is in a position where they can be aggressive because of the players they have around Victor Wembanyama. With D'Aaron Fox, they have two really good players.

Adding Brown could give them three players who can contend for the title, even in a very crowded Western Conference. That's how good Wemby is when he is healthy and playing on a regular basis.

Boston would need the second pick in the draft and some significant players from the Spurs in order to part ways with Brown. They might even demand that Fox be in the deal.

The Celtics are still unlikely to let Brown go. He will be the number-one option for the team next year without Jayson Tatum available because of the Achilles injury.

Boston is going to get players who fit around Brown and Tatum for them to contend in the future. It would be extremely surprising to see Brown get moved this offseason.

This year, Brown averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.

NBA Legend Shaquille O’Neal Sends Strong Message to Magic Johnson on Wednesday

While most retired NBA stars relax during the offseason, Shaquille O’Neal is busy doing what he does best—entertaining. But this week, the Hall of Famer didn’t just drop jokes or play DJ sets. Instead, he sent a loud, funny and very public challenge to fellow Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson, right from the streets of Barcelona. In a video posted on Instagram on Wednesday, O’Neal sit in the sunshine with a green apple in hand and a playful smirk on his face. “I’m in Barcelona. I’m looking for Magic Johnson,” O’Neal said. “Hey Magic! I saw you playing basketball on your yacht. I’ve been waiting to do it for a long time, Magic. One on one. Your yacht versus my plane. Matter of fact, I’m about to come look for you. It’s on Magic.” That wasn’t just talk. O’Neal was serious—or at least as serious as he ever is. The 7-foot-1 icon, currently on his DJ Diesel tour through Europe, started playing detective. “I called him but he didn’t answer,” he said. “Now it’s time for detective O’Neal to dissect the clues. He’s on a big yacht somewhere by the marina. I saw a Ferris wheel, I saw an orange road, I saw some buildings. Now it’s time to look.” Despite his effort, O’Neal came up short. “I can’t believe you eluded me for two days, Magic,” he said, clearly amused. Instead of finding Johnson, O’Neal wrapped up the video with a grin and a new friend. “Well, I’m in Barcelona, I did not find Magic Johnson, but I found a new best friend,” he joked, introducing a smiling local named Julio. The moment was another page in the long-running camaraderie between O’Neal and Johnson. Though not best friends, the two Lakers greats share a deep mutual respect and a warm relationship built on their shared time with the franchise. Over the years, they’ve exchanged playful banter both on social media and during appearances on TNT’s Inside the NBA. O’Neal has often referred to Johnson as a mentor, especially during his early Lakers days, while Johnson has praised O’Neal’s mix of dominance and charisma. But this time, it was a battle of post-retirement lifestyles. Johnson is currently enjoying the Mediterranean summer on his $140 million superyacht, the PHOENIX2, which has everything from luxury pools to a full basketball half-court. Last week, Johnson shared a video of himself calmly draining jumpers on the yacht’s deck with the Catalonian skyline behind him. From Yacht Jumpers to Comedy Skits “It was nice to be back in Barcelona, Spain where I won my gold medal with the Dream Team!” Johnson captioned the video. “I’m back shooting hoops, not in an arena this time, but on a yacht!” The friendly challenge was all in good fun, though it reflects how O’Neal is spending his summer. Between comedy skits with his son Myles, pick-up games with fans in Germany, and performances as DJ Diesel, Shaq has become one of basketball’s most visible off-court personalities. Just days ago, he posted a hilarious mafia-style skit with Myles on Instagram, ending with a shoutout to Icy Hot, one of his longtime sponsors. He even gave himself the nickname “Dark Nowitzki” while playing in Germany, another playful nod to his comedic side. While no official response has come from Johnson yet, fans are already buzzing about a possible one-on-one matchup—yacht versus plane—somewhere on the Spanish coast.

Yankees only willing to part with top prospect for one specific player

The New York Yankees (59-49) have already been quite busy as buyers ahead of the July 31 (6 p.m. EST) trade deadline. Third baseman Ryan McMahon, infielder Amed Rosario and outfielder Austin Slater have all been added to the fold over the last week as Brian Cashman looks to push his roster over the top in pursuit of a World Series. While the Yankees have been active, they've done so without giving up any of their top prospects. Outfielder Spencer Jones continues to be a hot commodity around baseball, though New York is hesitant to deal him. Unless that is for Pirates superstar starting pitcher Paul Skenes, that is. MLB insider Jon Heyman shared the report on Thursday afternoon. Cashman and the Yankees clearly hold Jones in very high regard, which makes sense given he's lit up both AA and AAA in 2025. The 24-year-old is batting an impressive .402 with 13 HRs and 25 RBI in just 21 games since getting called up to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. His 6'7, 240-pound frame and skillset as a left-handed hitter are tantalizing, and he'll be ready to make an impact at the big league level sooner rather than later. Despite that, there's no question the Yankees should and would be willing to put him on the table in a trade for Skenes. The 23-year-old has been absolutely dominant to start his MLB career, with a 1.89 earned run average through his first 45 starts. He's already emerged as one of, if not the best, pitchers in baseball, with plenty of room to grow. The Pirates (47-62) have shown zero inclination or willingness to move on from Skenes, though you have to figure that teams like the Yankees will continue to call as long as Pittsburgh continues to struggle. It feels like a pipe dream for now, but holding out hope for Skenes to one day become available could be worth the wait, and no prospect would be excluded in such a deal.

Yankees Trade Pirates for Star Closer

The New York Yankees have finally finalized a deal for a new closing pitcher. According to ESPN insider Jeff Passan, the Yankees are acquiring Pittsburgh Pirates right handed reliever David Bednar, pending medical review. Bednar, who had been having a difficult start to the season and did a conditioning stint in the minors, has been on fire since his return. His 2025 ERA is 2.37, with a 1.11 WHIP, a massive improvement since 2024. The Yankees can use all the relief pitching help they can get. While Luke Weaver had the closer job, he hasn't been the same since return from a three-week stint on the IL due to a hamstring injury. Devin Williams is incredibly inconsistent, sometimes shutting out batter after batter, and other times giving up three earned runs in one inning. New York had pivoted to a "one inning per pitcher" strategy in the last month, to only a middling degree of success. With Bednar in Pinstripes, the Yankees have an answer for one of their biggest questions. With Luis Gil ready to return to the starting rotation this weekend against the Miami Marlins, New York is back in fighting shape to make a run at the 2025 World Series. Green Bay Packers Insider Reveals 1 Surprising Wide Receiver Turning Heads During Training Camp

One of the biggest questions in Green Bay Packers training camp is who will emerge to join the team’s top five wide receivers on the initial 53-man roster when the preseason comes to an end. With Christian Watson likely unavailable to start the season due to his recovery from a torn ACL, Green Bay’s top five wide receivers, in no particular order, are Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Matthew Gold, and Savion Williams. The first three listed, Doubs, Reed, and Wicks, are veterans (still on their rookie contracts) that led the Packers in passing targets last season. Regardless of whatever trade rumors may have circulated in the past, none of them are going anywhere. The last two, of course, were both selected by Green Bay in the 2025 NFL Draft. Golden was the first wide receiver the Packers took in the first round since 2002, and Williams was taken in the third round. Both should be considered locks for the 53-man roster. There Are Many Green Bay Packers Wide Receivers Vying for a Job So crowded is the Packers wide receiver room that Bo Melton, who played the position for the past two seasons in Green Bay, switched to cornerback in hopes to improve his chances of making the 53-man roster. But even with Melton switching positions, the Packers have a plethora of talented wide receivers competing for one (or two at the most) spots on the 53-man roster that are reserved for the position. Malik Heath, an undrafted free agent in 2023, made Green Bay’s 53-man roster in each of the past two seasons. Mecole Hardman, a three-time Super Bowl winner with the Kansas City Chiefs, was signed as a free agent earlier this year, though the only part of his contract that is guaranteed was his $150,000 signing bonus. In addition to these players, the Packers also have Julian Hicks, Cornelius Johnson, Will Sheppard, and Sam Brown Jr. competing. And one of them is starting make reporters raise an eyebrow. Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Sam Brown Jr. Is Turning Heads in Training Camp Brown Jr. was an undrafted free agent that the Packers signed earlier this year. His signing was notable because he and Golden were teammates at Houston. While his signing may have been an afterthought by many fans given the name recognition of the team’s top pass catchers, Packers insider Wes Hodkiewicz recently wrote that the young rookie is making his presence known in training camp: “Sam Brown Jr., Golden’s former Houston teammate, keeps finding ways to get noticed for the right reasons, too. It seems like every practice he’s making at least one catch that makes you go, ‘Oh.'” Last season, Brown played at Miami and had 36 receptions for 509 yards and two touchdowns. The year prior, 2023, when he and Golden were teammates, Brown led Houston with 62 receptions for 815 yards. He also scored three touchdowns. It is still a longshot for Brown to make the roster, but if he continues to wow coaches, he could end up on the Packers practice squad this season.
