Charles Barkley might be one of the most entertaining voices in basketball, but during the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals, he proved once again that his appetite is just as legendary as his analysis.
With the New York Knicks trailing the Indiana Pacers 0-2 after dropping both games at Madison Square Garden, Barkley hilariously pleaded with the basketball gods and maybe even the Pacers to let the Knicks win at least one game in Indiana. Why? Not for legacy or drama. For street meat.
“Please don’t sweep these guys!” Barkley exclaimed during TNT’s broadcast of Game 2. “I need another night in New York to get that street meat!”
Charles Barkley again expresses his love for New York City street food: "Please don't sweep these guys! I need another night in New York to get that street meat!"

As the camera panned to a local food cart just outside MSG, the NBA Hall of Famer’s love for New York’s iconic street food took center stage. This wasn’t the first time Barkley had waxed poetic about the city’s meat-on-a-stick delicacies. During Game 1, he made headlines with his unfiltered and hilarious take:
"I don't even care what kind of meat it is, dog, rat, cat. I don't even know what it is when I'm up in New York. But I know once they put that white sauce on the tray, it's good to go."
With the Knicks now down 2-0 and heading to Indianapolis, Barkley's return to Manhattan hinges on whether New York can extend the series. And it’s no small ask. To reach the NBA Finals, they would have to become just the sixth team in history to do so after losing the first two games of a conference final at home.
But for Barkley, there’s more than history and basketball at stake, it’s about one more late-night gyro.
Barkley’s deep love for street food is well-documented, and the TNT crew didn’t miss the opportunity to play into it. During Game 1, the production team surprised him with a full platter of halal-style chicken over rice during the broadcast.
Without skipping a beat, Barkley dug in, joking, “When I see that little white truck, my heart just starts fluttering.”
His animated affection for food once again lightened the mood following a gut-wrenching Knicks loss in Game 1. The Knicks had led by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter, only to watch Tyrese Haliburton and the Pacers storm back with a game-tying three and an eventual overtime victory.
Despite incredible performances from Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, the collapse left fans devastated and Barkley hungry.
Now, with the series shifting to Indiana, the Knicks not only have to fight for survival on the court, but also for Chuck’s next meal in the Big Apple.
Game 3 tips off in Indianapolis on Sunday. And while Tom Thibodeau’s squad prepares to avoid elimination, one thing is certain: nobody in the NBA, either a player, coach, or analyst, has more riding on a Knicks win than Charles Barkley and his craving for New York’s beloved street meat.
