The Denver Nuggets have improved their roster ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season.
When a player like Nikola Jokic is in the prime of his career, a franchise’s goal should be extending their championship window by as many years as possible.
Fortunately, the Denver Nuggets seem to grasp this concept as they have made an array of moves this summer in hopes of competing for the 2026 NBA Championship.
Despite pushing the OKC Thunder to seven games in the second round, it was obvious that the Nuggets were far from their best during the 2025 NBA postseason.
Moreover, the front office clearly failed to build an excellent roster around Jokic. As a result, it wasn’t a surprise when GM Calvin Booth and head coach Michael Malone were fired last season.
Since then, the Nuggets have made several moves to bolster their roster. In fact, an anonymous Nuggets executive revealed this was the team’s plan since the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline.
“We had to get deeper. That was clear to us as far back as the trade deadline. We’ll have DaRon [Holmes II] this year, which is going to be huge,” the executive told Spotrac.
They added: “But adding Cam [Johnson], Jonas [Valanciunas], Tim [Hardaway Jr.] and bringing Bruce [Brown] home, are huge for us. And we still like our younger guys too.
“The pressure is just off them a bit to have to be great every night.”
Allowing young players to develop while also competing for the ultimate title is a luxury that every team cannot afford. However, the Nuggets seem to have done that ahead of the upcoming season.
With the roster improved, the next step for the Nuggets should be to sign the Joker to an extension. However, Jokic has reportedly turned down an extension this offseason.
But should the fanbase be worried about the 30-year-old’s future in Denver? Another Nuggets executive cleared the air.
“No worry at all. It’s the smart move from his side, if I’m being honest. He can lock in an extra year next year, which is the way to do it when you are in his position.
“Same offer, plus one more year, will be there for him a year from now. He knows that, and we’re all on the same page,” the executive stated.
All things considered, the Nuggets are in a great place right now as the 2025 NBA Summer League has recently wrapped up.
