Former Warriors Star Calls Jimmy Butler a 'Baby'

Following multiple suspensions for conduct detrimental to the team, the Miami Heat traded Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors on Feb. 6.

At 35, Butler wanted a new contract with Miami. When the Heat chose not to give him one, the six-time NBA All-Star walked out of practice.

Former Warriors and Miami Heat star Tim Hardaway Sr. took issue with Butler's antics with the Heat. He called Butler a "baby" for how he handled his situation in Miami.

"I didn't agree with what he was doing," Hardaway said via Sirius XM NBA Radio. "You're under contract. You, you a baby, you're cry baby, because they said no to you. We used to get said no to us all the time, and we used to know how to take it. It is what it is. It's a question. You get a yes or no. You might not like the question, but you can't deviate and mess up the team."

Hardaway thinks Miami was in the right to tell Butler that he needed to play more basketball games before offering him a new deal.

"They said, 'No, we want to see you play more games. We don't want to be in the Play-In games.' If you saw if he played more games, they would have never been in the Play-In games both years. Even though they went to the championship, they never would have been in the Play-In games. That takes a lot out of you."

Hardaway blames the Heat for letting Butler get away with too many things during his tenure with the team.

"I fault them for letting him get away with a bunch of stuff too," Hardaway said. "You got to nip it in the butt. When he went after, told (Erik) Spoelstra he'd kick his butt at a time out, and they had to take another time out because Udonis Haslem was circling around.

"That should have been like, 'Yo, you getting three to five games, you don't talk to the coach like that, you don't disrespect the coach like that.'"
