The Golden State Warriors, who have started the 2025-26 NBA season showcasing their impressive depth, may soon receive another significant boost to their rotation. The team released a positive update on the recovery of veteran guard De’Anthony Melton, who has been rehabilitating a torn ACL he suffered nearly a year ago. The latest news suggests that reinforcements could be on the way for the Warriors in the coming weeks.
In an official statement, the Warriors detailed Melton’s progress, signaling that he is entering the final stages of his recovery. “Warriors guard De’Anthony Melton, who underwent surgery to repair a torn left ACL on December 4, 2024, continues to make good progress with his rehabilitation,” the team announced. “He has intensified his individual and small group on-court workouts and will be integrated into team practice over the next two weeks, including with the Santa Cruz Warriors.”
The team will formally re-evaluate Melton in three weeks. This timeline aligns with the organization’s initial expectations that he would miss the early part of the season. If his progress continues on this positive track, a return to the court in mid-to-late November is a realistic possibility, adding another valuable piece to an already deep roster.
Melton’s journey with Golden State has been eventful. He originally signed a one-year, $12.8 million contract last offseason and made an immediate impact in his first six games before the season-ending injury. In that brief window, he averaged 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, shooting an efficient 37.1 percent from three-point range. His two-way play and versatility were exactly what the Warriors hoped for when they signed him.
His contract was later traded to the Brooklyn Nets in the deal that brought Dennis Schröder to the Bay Area. However, the Warriors re-signed Melton this past summer, demonstrating their continued belief in his ability to contribute. His return would provide another experienced and reliable guard for the second unit, capable of both scoring and defending at a high level. For a Warriors team that has thrived on its depth to start the season, adding a player of Melton’s caliber would make them an even more formidable opponent as they navigate the long NBA season.
